Marina Bay Singapore: A Photographer’s Paradise

Many moons ago I was lucky to travel to Singapore. Unlike many visitors it wasn’t just a stopover between Europe to Down Under. It was a real vacation with time to discover more about this fascinating place, its history, culture and people.

But, of course, no visit to Singapore is complete without exploring Marina Bay. One evening I headed off to the lake with my tripod and camera – and patient friends.

The majestic, modern skyscrapers of the Finance District were mirrored beautifully in the tranquil waters, with the illuminated walkway across the bay providing a stunning visual separator and adding depth and dimension to this breathtaking nightscape.

Taking centre stage, of course, the historic Fullerton Hotel, lit up majestically in glittering gold.

It was a photographer’s paradise. My camera must have been glowing hot with all the shots I took that evening.

Vibrant Vittoriosa

On a memorable trip to Malta, we took the local ferry from the capital city of Valletta across the Grand Harbour to Vittoriosa. Together with the districts of Senglea and Cospicua, Vittoriosa is oldest part of the so-called Three Cities (Maltese: It-Tlett Ibliet). These fortified villages are joined together like the umbilical chord near Malta’s historic heart.

We sailed up Harbour Creek, passing luxury yachts moored in the marina that contrasted with the backdrop of historical towers and facades of the impressive waterfront buildings include St. Lawrence’s Church and the Maltese Maritime Museum in the Ex-Naval Bakery. These fascinating places and much more are well worth exploring to find hidden gems of days gone by.

Approaching Miami Beach

Imagine flying in to your location on Miami Beach on your private plane or helicopter – for your vacation, a film assignment or whatever. As you approach this amazing island in Biscayne Bay, the Beach with its miles of sand and turquoise blue waters unfolds before you. In the distance, the towering skyscrapers on the shoreline.

Enchanting Medieval Regensburg

This medieval gem is well worth a visit when exploring Bavaria, whether by car or on a Danube cruise. Immerse yourself in the charming and richly historical old town of Regensburg with its vibrant colours and fascinating history. And maybe try the local sausage speciality – Regensburger Bratwurst – at the famous Wurstkuchl near the stone bridge.

I visited here on a hot June day in 2013, just a few weeks after this whole area was hit by extreme flooding. Dedicated to my wonderful colleagues with me then and now, or who joined me since.

Colourful Canals of Old Amsterdam

The Dutch capital is an amazing city to visit. Jump on a tour boat or explore on foot and admire the maze of grachten – city canals – in the historic centre with its colourful architecture, bustling cafés, museums, art galleries and more. The grachtengordel or “canal belt” in Amersterdam is UNESCO listed, not surprisingly.

Night Stroll on Voulismeni Lake

On your evening out in Agios Nikolaos make sure you take a stroll around the lake away from the hustle and bustle. Sit and enjoy the beautiful view across this natural salt water lake to the busy cafés and restaurants. Agios Nikolaos, Crete, Greece

Singapore Financial District and Fullerton Hotel

Getting ready to countdown to the New Year 2012. An awesome view across the bay to the Singapore Financial District. The golden lit colonial style building is the Fullerton Hotel. The balls in Marina Bay are lit purple by lasers but are actually white and carried handwritten New Year’s wishes as part of the Countdown Celebrations.
