Dawn Light at Eyemouth

Fate and a brilliant suggestion from my dear Sis brought me here unexpectedly on a March day.

After a stormy Spring tide the evening before there was a beautiful, calming start to the new day.

Just after sunrise looking over the beach and bay in the pretty harbour town of Eyemouth, Berwickshire in the Scottish Borders.

Peaceful Port Charlotte Dawn

I stood on the small beach near the harbour and enjoyed a peaceful moment just before the sun came up.

A small fishing boat is anchored nearby in the golden, calm waters of Loch Indaal, while the Paps of Jura mountains on the neighbouring island form a silhouette in the distance.

Port Charlotte, Islay, Inner Hebrides, Argyll & Bute, Scotland.

Rosamol Beach, Luskentyre

Far from the madding crowd. Miles of golden sand on this remote beach, often called Luskentyre Beach.

Well worth the journey up the picturesque single track road. Rosamol beach (Tràigh Rosamol) lies half a mile or 0.8 km northwest of Luskentyre (Losgaintir) in the south west of Harris. Amazing views of the long sandy, beach and the sound across to the isle of Taransay await you after the walk through the dunes. Tráigh Losgaintir, Isle of Harris (Na Hearadh), Outer Hebrides, Scotland.

Available as wall art on PM4Me.

Locals’ View of the White Beaches

When approaching the famous White Beaches on the coastal road from the south you will be greeted by views like this. Before driving a few hundred yards to scenes like this. Isle of Harris, Outer Hebrides, Scotland.

A small flock of local sheep on the hillside above Taransay Bay who enjoy this spectacular view across one of the beaches to the village of Luskentyre and the Harris hills beyond every day. Not sure if they appreciate it like I do LOL.

Window Seat View

Back in the day I flew almost every week and my faithful Nikon D200 went with me in my handbag! I always tried to get a window seat. Sometimes with amazing views like this one. Sometimes it was cloudy or rainy – or I was over the wing:-( Once there wasn’t even a window!

Not so long ago when flying back to Germany from Edinburgh I was lucky enough to enjoy the late afternoon light reflecting on the North Sea with a wonderful smattering of tiny clouds far below. If you look carefully there is a tiny ship crossing too.

Captured from a commercial flight at about 10 000 metres or 33 000 ft above sea level.

Breathe in that Invigorating Hebridean Air

If you visit the Outer Hebrides, don’t just do the typical tours: if can, travel off the beaten track and take life as it comes. That is not only the Mediterrean but also the Hebridean way of life.

Drive up north from Stornoway and take a walk on the 2 miles of fine, golden sands Tràigh Mhòr beach with views across the Minch and the Atlantic, and you are likely to have it all to yourself.

Breathtaking view from the cliffs tops, north of Tolsta on the Isle of Lewis / Eilean Leòdhais, Outer Hebrides, Scotland.

Winter’s Dawn Light over the Baltic

An icy cold January morning just after dawn and the winter sun peaks through above the clouds over the Greifswalder Bodden – a shallow bay between mainland Germany and the island of Ruegen (Rügen) in the Baltic Sea. Thiessow, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern Germany.

My Rügen images are available as wall art on Photo4Me and wall art as well as a wide range of other products on Redbubble.

Castle on an Island

Kisimul Castle was built on a small island just off the coast from Castlebay on the Outer Hebridean island of Barra in medieval times.
If you ever fly from mainland Scotland to the famous beach airport on Barra you may be lucky to enjoy an aerial view too, as I did. More about the beach landing in another blog.

My Barra images on Photo4Me site are also available as wall art and a wide range of products on Redbubble.

North Uist: Tràigh Iar (West Beach)

It was breathtaking standing on the dunes at Tràigh Iar looking north west along the vast expanse of the remote sands.

Turquoise Paradise

Breathe in that magnificent sea air and take an invigorating walk along the amazing Tràigh Mhòr beach.

2 miles of fine, golden sand with a view across the Minch and the Atlantic. If the sun is right you’ll get Caribbean turquoise waters like this as a reward. But remember it may rain, just as it did this day shortly afterwards.

Located near the hamlet of Tolsta, north of Stornoway on the east coast of the island.

Isle of Lewis / Eilean Leòdhais, Outer Hebrides, Scotland.

Paps of Jura Dawn

Imagine getting up before dawn and wandering down to the small pier in Port Charlotte. No-one around. You may even encounter a deer strolling through the village, like I did. Breathe in that fresh sea air and look out over Loch Indaal to the Paps of Jura mountains beyond. Port Charlotte, Islay, Inner Hebrides, Argyll & Bute, Scotland.

Available as wall art on PM4Me and wall art and a wide range of other products on Redbubble.

North Uist: Tràigh Iar (West Beach)

It was breathtaking standing on the dunes at Tràigh Iar looking south west towards the vast expanse of sands and the island of Vallay. Tràigh Iar (West Beach), Grenetote (Greinetobht), North Uist (Ubhist a thuath), Outer Hebrides, Scotland.

Ferry to Santorini

The weekly ferry to the neighbouring island of Santorini leaves Agios Nikolaos not long after sun has risen over Mirabello Bay with the mountains on the Sitia Peninsula in the background.

Port Ellen, Islay

Islay is a lovely island off the west coast of Scotland. One of the Inner Hebrides, it is home to a number of distilleries including Laphroaig, Lagavulin, Bowmore and Ardbeg. It also has many beautiful beaches, stretches of rugged coastline and picturesque villages.

Dawn Light on the Baltic Sea

Every day different light and views. Even storm clouds have their appeal when viewed like this. The beach was very narrow due to the high tide. I was right up against the sand dunes and got my feet wet taking this one. But it was worth it.

Pre-Dawn Light

Worth getting up early to enjoy the wonderful light of the beautiful blue hour shortly before the sun rose over the Sitia Peninsula. A perfect start to the new day. Imagine enjoying this view across Mirabello Bay from your balcony in Agios Nikolaos, Crete, Greece.
