Swimming at Dawn, Agios Nikolaos

Imagine going for a dawn swim in the Mediterranean Sea and enjoying the first rays of light as you float in the warm waters. Such a unique moment.

On our last day, I took my underwater camera for a swim in the little cove at Cosmina Beach in Agios Nikolaos, Crete, Greece, just a few minutes walk from my holiday apartment. Combining many of my passions – sunrise moments, photography, swimming, this view over the bay and more.

The light from the sun illuminated the clouds from behind, lending them a soft, ethereal glow over the waters of Mirabello Bay and the mountains on the Sitia Peninsula beyond.

I was so lucky that everything came together that morning. Often the sky was clear and the sun was not that round, golden ball on the horizon. Sometimes the sea was rough. Sometimes the salty water splashed on my lens. Sometimes I slept on…
